Stowmarket Food Trailer hosts ‘Mount Beef’ burger challenge of nearly 5000 calories
Two pounds of beef between layers of bacon, cheese and potato waffles - can ‘Mount Beef’ be consumed within 10 minutes?
Three challengers took on the latest eating challenge from Stowmarket Food Trailer on Wednesday in a race to see who can beat the burger of nearly 5000 calories and get their name listed on the victorious chalkboard.
The three brave souls taking part were Frank Bellment, 32, Glenn Abbott, 46, and Oliver Owen, 15, whose father, Paul Owen, owns the establishment.
While the burgers were cooking, Glenn said: “I’m a bit nervous but I’m feeling alright about it.
“I think I’m going to break it down and eat a burger at a time with a bit of bacon and waffle.
“I haven’t really done any eating challenges before. I do eat a lot anyway but I think I’m just going to try to eat this as fast as I can, really.”
Launched on Saturday, the challenge’s original rules saw a ‘no water’ rule in place - however, this has recently been changed and those taking part can drink, but those who eat the burgers without drinking will get a ‘Mount Beef’ certificate.
The trailer is owned by Paul Owen, 48, and serves a wide menu from the Floor Dimensions car park in Bury Road from homemade burgers to fresh chicken quesadillas.
Paul, who has lived in Stowmarket for 13 years, started the trailer in February 2023 after watching Hell’s Kitchen during lockdown and becoming inspired to start his own food business.
He said: “Business was a bit quiet so we basically wanted to do something to grab people’s attention a bit more.
“Everyone loves a good burger and we just thought - ‘why not?’
“The words Mount Beef just popped into my head so I made a giant burger and it completely blew up on Facebook.
“Doing the trailer is a total vocation for me - cooking is my passion and I love getting creative with the menu and offering a wide range of different cuisines, I’m always thinking about the next thing to add.”
With a time of 8.03, Glenn Abbott was able to conquer ‘Mount Beef’ and be the first ever challenger to have his name on the board.
Glenn’s valiant effort saw him resort to drinking a bottle of water to get through the mountain of beef – therefore a ‘no water’ certificate is yet to be awarded.

Glenn added: “It’s good to go on the board - someone will beat the time no doubt but I know that I was the first.”
