Lowestoft MP, Jess Asato, takes on pimping websites with Government petition
A Suffolk MP has taken on pimping websites with a new petition to Government.
On Friday afternoon, Lowestoft MP Jess Asato formally presented a petition in the House of Commons on behalf of her constituents, asking the Government to outlaw pimping websites.
The petition argues the websites 'operate with impunity' and facilitate the prostitution and sex trafficking trade.
Introducing the petition, Ms Asato said: "Pimping websites facilitate the trafficking and exploitation of women, yet remain readily accessible.
"These companies make millions of pounds out of extremely vulnerable women and are a core part of the business model of sex trafficking in the UK."
The petition also asked the Government to outlaw paying for sex and provide support, not sanctions, to victims of sexual exploitation.
Under Government rules, the petition must receive a response from the relevant department within two months of being presented, although this can take longer if there is a recess.
