Suffolk’s police boss is due to ask for close to £14 extra on average from every Council Tax payer on the force’s precept
Suffolk’s police boss is due to ask for close to £14 extra on average from every Council Tax payer on the force’s precept.
On Friday, Tim Passmore, Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), will present the constabulary’s case for a 5.1 per cent increase in the force’s precept to members of the county council’s police and crime panel.
Approval would be equivalent to the police’s portion of the tax bill for the average band D property increasing by £13.95 from the beginning of the next financial year, in April.
Mr Passmore will need to justify to panel members the need for the increase and what additional benefits it will bring as residents still struggle with the impacts of the cost of living.
On top of the extra income, the force would still need to find £4.6 million in savings between April this year and the end of March 2029.
The report states a further option of increasing the precept by just £9.99, or 3.4 per cent, was considered but abandoned as it would leave the constabulary £1.1 million out of pocket even after savings were made.
