Leaders asked to agree sale of final plot at Eastern Gateway, Ipswich
Leaders are being asked to agree to the sale of the final plot of land at a town’s industrial park.
Members of Ipswich’s executive will meet on Tuesday, November 26, to discuss proposals to sell off plots 20 and 22, the last remaining at Eastern Gateway Ipswich.
The identity of the buyer was not revealed, with details of the deal to be discussed in private, but is being described as ‘developer-investor’ and ‘complementary to the rest of the site’.
If approved, the sale would be subject to the incoming company securing planning permission for the 18.84-acre site, ‘completing due diligence’, and an agreement to complete the required infrastructure.
As part of a wider package of infrastructure works approved in principle in 2021, the council will begin building the second roundabout access in Sproughton Road in April next year subject to highways approvals and is hoping to complete it by November.
The overall 130-acre industrial park site, in Sproughton Road, was bought in 2014 by the council after it was left behind by the former sugar beet factory and acquired special Enterprize Zone (EZ) status in 2016.
The council estimates 900 jobs will be created as a result of the developments — these include jobs created through the Amazon and LDH La Doria sales.
