Ipswich Borough Council celebrates landmark installation of a solar panel at a home in Maple Close




Ipswich Borough Council has installed its 500th solar panel in its bid to promote renewable energy.

The landmark panel was installed on a home in Maple Close using local firms for both scaffolding and installation.

Cllr Philip Smart, the portfolio holder for environment and climate change, believes this installation is a momentous occasion.

He said: “It exemplifies our dedication to environmental stewardship, sets an example for other communities to follow and shows we are resolute in our commitment to a sustainable future.”

Supported through Government Energy Improvement grants, the initiative aims to combat climate change by paving the way for a greener way of life in the borough.

The council also hopes its project to install 745 solar panels on council homes by 2025 will have a positive impact on energy security for everyone.

Cllr Alasdair Ross, the portfolio holder for housing, added: “These panels will help to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions for Ipswich and its residents.”
