All About Sip’Swich pub and bar crawl, featuring iconic venues, launches in Ipswich

A dog-friendly pub and bar trail is set to take punters on a tour of Ipswich town centre.

Iconic Ipswich venues, including The Thomas Wolsey, Isaacs on the Quay, The Woolpack and The Shamrock, are among the 15 pubs that feature in the ‘All About Sip’Swich’ pub crawl.

People and their pooches will be able to take part by picking up a leaflet at one of the pubs, or outside the Town Hall, buying a drink and getting a stamp at each venue.

Anyone who completes the lot will win prizes, including a Wolsey Gate pin, a reusable coffee cup and a dog bandana.

The event, lasting six weeks, has been organised by Ipswich Central Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with Ipswich Borough Council.

Lee Walker, chief executive of the BID, said it served two purposes, allowing the 15 pubs and bars to boost their trade while allowing the people of Ipswich to discover new places.

He said: “If participants complete the whole trail, over the six weeks it will run, they can also claim some lovely prizes which is an added bonus.

“We wanted to offer a quality prize that people would find useful rather than something cheap and disposable – the cups are really stylish.

“I'm expecting demand to be high so urge people not to dilly dally as stocks are limited.”

All About Sip’Swich is split between two trails, a historic one and a dog-friendly one.

Neil MacDonald, the borough council’s leader, said the authority was supporting the trail in a bid to boost the town’s economy.

He said: “The centre of Ipswich has some wonderful bars and pubs, each with its own unique character and ambience.

“I hope people will enjoy discovering somewhere different to go for a drink or a meal out.

“Many dog owners tell me they aren’t sure where they can take their canine friends, and this will also help those people find places that will make their dogs welcome.”
