Brewdog will still open in Ipswich despite recent bar closures
Brewdog has said it will still open its new bar in Ipswich despite recent closures.
The craft beer firm is set to set up shop on Ipswich Waterfront, with contractors already on site to begin work.
This comes following news last week that it will be closing six bars across the UK.
The Hop and Anchor in Aberdeen, Smithfield Market Arms in London, Hop Hub in Motherwell, and further bars in Dalston, London and Peterhead are being axed.
Company founder James Watt revealed in a LinkedIn post that the closures were due to spiralling costs.
He said it was heartbreaking to lose them, and blamed the closures on a lack of help from a 'clueless government'.
Watt said: "It was going to be simply impossible to get these bars even close to financial viability in the foreseeable future.
"We had no choice but to close them."
A BrewDog spokesperson said the brewer was hugely excited to launch its first venue in Suffolk.
It secured planning permission earlier this year.
They added: "Work is well underway with contractors on site, and we look forward to sharing more updates on our exciting plans for the waterfront bar in the coming months ahead of our grand opening.”
There have been no job losses from the closures of the six bars.
All staff were offered positions at other Brewdog venues.
