Brewdog withdraws plans to open in Ipswich waterfront due to challenging economic conditions

Brewdog has 'reluctantly' reversed its decision to open a bar in a Suffolk town, but last orders have not been called on its ambitions to come to the area.

A change in circumstances, including challenging economic conditions and the viability of the new site, means the craft beer firm has withdrawn plans to launch in Ipswich waterfront.

It previously revealed it would move into the site of the former La Tour Cycle Cafe, despite the closure of six chains in the UK earlier this year.

When the news broke, it noted contractors were already on site to begin work.

The firm secured planning permission to build on the waterfront back in January.

It met with the public in October 2021 and agreed to reduce hours of use by an hour.

A spokesperson for Brewdog said: “Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we have reluctantly had to withdraw from the proposed waterfront location, due to the current challenging economic conditions affecting the viability of this site.

"However, we remain committed to opening in the town in the future and bringing Brewdog to the people of Ipswich.”
