East Suffolk Council to discuss £500,000 replacement of 25-year-old parking machines
An authority will discuss spending £500,000 on replacing 25-year-old parking pay and display machines.
On Tuesday, members of East Suffolk Council's cabinet will discuss replacing pay-and-display machines in its 76 car parks.
The proposals follow last month's increase in parking charges decided alongside a £1 million investment promise into the authority's 76 car parks.
The 96 parking machines currently in place across the district are at the end of their live and no longer fit for purpose, with most being in place for around 25 years.
According to a council's report, the current machines have become costly to maintain due to parts being harder to procure and have been subject to vandalism more frequently.
It adds: "Aging machines would, in time, present a health and safety risk and would increase the cost associated with inspection and maintenance."
