The Giggling Squid in Bury St Edmunds is the lunchtime saviour we all need
Lunch is often an overlooked treat. You have the chance to indulge yourself, yet you settle for a soggy sandwich from Tesco. Well, I say no more, and The Giggling Squid has the answer.
The Bury St Edmunds eatery has a fantastic lunch menu, with the Thai-restaurant's tapas sets offering the perfect boost to break up a dull day in the office.
For between £10 to £13 the selections cater for everyone from the awkward vegetarian to those wanting to break the bank on the Wealthy Squid option, which comes with a lamb massaman curry, shredded duck spring rolls, samui zingy prawns, and jasmin rice.
For anyone who loves a duck roll, this is the option for you. No longer will you be able to eat another one again and not remember how the Giggling Squid did it better.
The curry was also another hit, with the lamb perfectly cooked and plentiful, and the vegetables bringing the dish to life.
To think I walked into the Abbeygate Street restaurant just moments after seriously considering going to a rather more downmarket option - and one that wasn't really that much cheaper.
And the difference is rather than being chucked out into the rain with my lunch, complete with a Greta Thunberg approved wooden fork which would have snapped halfway through my salad, I had the chance stay in the rather elegant setting of the restaurant complete with its pleasant and efficient waiters.
And for the Gretas out there, the vegitarian tapas set, like the meaty option, was presented beautifully. It came with Thai spring rolls, vegetable green curry, stir fry vegetables and jasmine rice.
If the idea of tapas is to showcase an array of a restaurant’s best dishes, then this more than succeeded.
With fresh ingredients boasting an array of flavours - sweet, sour, creamy and a fair bit of spice - it was a delicious insight into the food offered at the Giggling Squid, while also leaving you pretty full for hours to come.
And the tapas featured what I would say was one of the best green curries I’ve ever had, so I will be seeking out another Giggling Squid at the earliest opportunity I can.
