Potential opening date revealed for new Bury St Edmunds Mowgli Street Food restaurant, which is set to create 30 jobs

A new restaurant in Bury St Edmunds is set to create 30 jobs when it opens later this year.

Mowgli Street Food confirmed yesterday it would be opening in Abbeygate Street – at the former Bill’s restaurant site – in ‘late 2023’.

Today, it has released a mock-up of how the Abbeygate Street exterior could look once the Mowgli conversion is complete, while the company said it had pencilled in November 10 as a potential opening date.

The new Indian street food restaurant will accommodate 112 diners indoors and six covers in a dedicated outdoor seating space.

Nisha Katona MBE, founder of Mowgli, said: “Bury St Edmunds is taking shape and is very Mowgli indeed. We will slink in and grow organically, bringing the building to life with trees, lanterns, branches and ropes.

“I remain executive chef, everything is cooked fresh to my recipes every morning and every day we know we are only as good as our last curry.”

Mowgli’s menu is entirely comprised from Nisha’s family recipes and is about how Indians eat in the privacy of their home kitchens and lunchtime street stalls.

Nisha said: “I’m full of enthusiasm for growth because for every Mowgli we create 30 jobs and aim to pay more than £500,000 per year to local charities.

“To make Bury truly our home, we will adopt a local house charity recommended by those who dine with us, to whom we will dedicate our time and resources.”

The first Mowgli opened in 2014 and has since grown to 19 sites across the country.
