Final Mid Suffolk District Council decision due on 210-home development in Thurston
A final decision is due on plans for a 210-home development in a village.
Mid Suffolk councillors will discuss plans submitted by Barratt David Wilson Homes (Anglia) to build 210 new homes on land to the east of Ixworth Road, in Thurston, on Wednesday.
The reserved matters application, looking at the development's finer appearance, structural landscaping, layout and scale details, was deferred from its original due date on February 12 after residents were not notified.
Outline permission for the plans was granted on appeal in 2023 after the council failed to make a decision before the deadline.
Although councillors said they would have refused it had they been in a position to do so, they ended up being unsuccessful in their legal challenge to the inspectorate's decision.
The officer's report states the large number of housing developments in Thurston in recent years is acknowledged, but stresses outline permission has already been secured.
In June last year, a campaign group launched in the village calling for a halt on all housing developments until infrastructure could be in place.
The reserved matters details received objections from Thurston Parish Council as well as nine residents.
Among the concerns were fears over the development's density, access, and impacts on traffic.
Should councillors approve the reserved matters bid, the applicant will have to pay just over £1.6 million s106 developer's contributions as well as Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funds.
