Controversial extension of Lawn Farm Quarry, in Wetherden, near Elmswell, back on the table for final decision from Suffolk County Council
Controversial plans for the extension of a village quarry are back on the table for a final decision.
On Tuesday next week, Aggmax Transport's proposals for the northern expansion of Lawn Farm Quarry, in Wetherden, south of Elmswell, are due to be decided by members of the county council's development and regulation committee.
The plans were due to be decided in early December but were deferred because parish councillors and residents were not notified of the meeting in advance.
A site inspection is still due to take place on Friday this week.
The proposals attracted strong local opposition, with 64 residents submitting a total of 274 comments and a public petition receiving 2,016 signatures.
Formal objections were received from Elmswell, Wetherden, Haughley and Woolpit parish councils.
Despite the concerns, officers have recommended the plans for approval.
The company said there were an expected 750,000 saleable tonnes of sand and gravel at the site.
The site would be restored and returned to agricultural land once the life of the quarry elapsed as well as include ecological enhancement areas and surface water drainage management.
A representation from Suffolk Wildlife Trust argues the restoration proposals could deliver more for nature recovery.
