Woodbridge GCSE results: Farlingaye High School praises students for high pass rate despite challenging few years

A school in Woodbridge praised its students for overcoming ‘tremendous challenges’ after a tumultuous few years as they picked up their GCSE results today.

Farlingaye High School said 99 per cent of its pupils passed their GCSEs this year, with a record number of students wishing to stay on for Sixth Form.

Of the 292 people who collected their results, 70 per cent of pupils gained at least a level 4 in Maths and English – with 25 per cent bagging between levels 7 and 9 in all subjects.

Headteacher Andy Sievewright said: “I am very pleased that so many of our students have done well at the end of a tough period, and in a year where grades will fall significantly across the country.

“It is wonderful that the great majority have been able to access their first choice of destination. We wish them every success next year.”

Farlingaye pupil Anna Gillingwater achieved 10 grade 9s.

She is one of the pupils who will stay at the school to study her A-Levels, having elected to take Chemistry, Maths, Biology and PE.

Anna said: “The exams were stressful, but the school was really helpful in running revision sessions.

“I worked hard and tried to be consistent with my effort – from Year 8 onwards.

“I am looking forward to starting Sixth Form and getting used to a new environment.”

Harry Morriston achieved seven grade 9s, one grade 8 and two grade 7s.

He will also stay at Farlingaye to study Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Physics.

Harry said: “I put in a lot of work. It really is all about the hours you do.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of Sixth Form. Doing four subjects will be challenging, but I am going to give it a go.”

Mabel Coulter was another high-flyer, gaining nine grade 9s and a grade 7, and will also remain at Farlingaye to study Chemistry, Biology and Psychology.

Mabel said: “Well done to everyone for getting through the exams and on their results.

“I am pleased with how I did and now just want to get on with my Sixth Form studies.”

Peter Smith, who is due to replace Mr Sievewright as headteacher in September, praised the students.

He added: “These results reflect well on our students and their ability to cope with tremendous challenges.

“It will be a pleasure to continue working with those who are staying with us next year.”
