Farlingaye High School students to try to set record with 24-hour train journey to raise funds for Jetty Lane playscape in Woodbridge

Three students will embark on an epic train journey as part of a quest to build a new youth centre in Woodbridge.

Jean-Baptiste Bonniot, Sam Garratt and Josh Smith, all A-Level students at Farlingaye High School, will attempt to break the record for travelling on trains run by 24 major operators.

Setting off from the town on September 2, they have given themselves 24 hours to complete the challenge.

Funds raised in the appeal will help build a new ‘playscape’ in Jetty Lane Road, by the River Deben.

Jetty Lane CIO, which spearheaded the project, wants the playscape to replace the former youth centre, after £3.5m plans to build a new one were quashed during the pandemic.

The trio said the building was knocked down for safety reasons.

They stated: “Our aim is two-fold: firstly, we want to support Jetty Lane.

“Secondly, we love the railways and want to encourage others to use the train wherever and whenever possible.

“While we’re rushing between trains on the day, we’ll try talking to the people who run the railways and to those who use them in order to find out more about Britain’s relationship with its trains.”

The trio will be posting live updates on their Twitter account @24in24_train and Instagram @24in24_train_challenge.

Operators the trio hope to ride on include Greater Anglia, South Western Railway, Great Western Railway and Southern Rail and London Overground.
