Jay Cotterill, of Sutton Heath, appears before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court charged with murder; inquest into death of his alleged victim opens




A man accused of murdering a 37-year-old in a Suffolk village has appeared at magistrates court this week, and will next appear at court in January.

Jay Cotterill, 42, of Ipswich Avenue, Sutton Heath, near Woodbridge, appeared before Suffolk Magistrates' Court in Ipswich on Wednesday morning (October 11), charged with murdering Richard Hunt the previous Sunday evening (October 8).

He did not enter a formal plea, and his next appearance at Ipswich Crown Court was scheduled for January 15, 2024.

He was also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm on a woman on Sunday evening.

Cotterill was remanded in custody.

An inquest into the death of Mr Hunt was opened this morning (October 13) and was suspended until June 2024.
