Young Kedington band rocks to raise cash for charity

A rock band formed by children from Kedington has used its first paid gig to raise cash for charity.

Electrode, whose members are all either pupils or former pupils of Kedington Primary school, played at the Plough Inn in Hundon on April 3.

They used the concert to raise money for charity Supporting Children with Cancer UK. The total is yet to be confirmed, but they estimate they raised between £150 and £250.

The group, whose members include Ellen and Jessie Spicer, Jack Barney-Bytham, Joseph Hondo, Billy Read and Zoe Rozier, played a one and a half hour set.

Their repertoire included songs from Blur, AC/DC, Green Day and Nancy Sinatra.

Ellen Spicer, 11, said: “It was really fun, I play bass. It’s quite easy, but you have to practise. It’s good experience for us.”

Ellen’s sister, Jessie, nine, said: “I play guitar and sometimes sing. I think it was lots of fun, I like it very much.”

The band overcame adversity to perform, having been rejected from their school talent competition. Practise, however, made perfect.

Ellen and Jessie’s mother, Annabel Spicer, praised the youngsters’ hard work and their musical ability.

“They work so hard,” she said. “They put in four to five hours of practice a week.

“They saw the film, School of Rock, and decided this was something they wanted to do.

“We’re hoping that with gigs like this, they can take it to the next level, but still have fun and enjoy themselves.”
