Singer-songwriter Harlee enjoys going solo

Lakenheath singer-songwriter Harlee Cavendar has made the nerve-wracking leap from playing in bands to going solo – and is loving every minute.

The 18-year-old, who only stepped into the solo artist limelight recently having spent years playing in groups and bands, has a very busy summer planned, performing at festivals and live gigs all over the county.

Harlee said at first it was scary taking to the stage on her own, but now she enjoyed the freedom it gave her.

“I’ve been doing it since I was about 14 years old,” she said. “I have been mainly playing in bands before that. I have come back with a new sound for my solo stuff.

“It is a lot harder because when you play solo if you make a little mistake everyone can pick up on it.

“But at the same time now if I am by myself I don’t have to rely on anyone. I really enjoyed playing in bands and had been scared to go solo.

“But I am starting to enjoy it a lot now. “I think I have matured.”

Harlee has a packed summer ahead of her.

On Saturday (May 7) she is performing at the Bury Fringe Festival All-Dayer event.

Next up is the John Peel Centre on May 17. Harlee is playing at the NXN Presents evening alongside Gaffa Tape Sandy, Suburban Minds and Becca Rose

On June 11 she is playing Nest Fest at Lakenheath Football Pit.

On July 12 you can catch her at West Row Band Day at the village hall.
