Entertainer Martin Weavers is excited to be returning to Sudbury’s Quay Theatre next month with a one-man show.

Martin, who comes from Bures, will be returning to an old haunt to sing songs from the 1960s and 1970s, as well as putting his own little bit of humour into the show, which is on February 13.

A former builder, Martin has been on television shows including Britain’s Got Talent, The Des O’Connor Show and Barrymore and has also appeared in other programmes including Lovejoy.

He said: “I was well known in the area during the mid 1990s performing with my comedy partner Patrick Mortimer.

“Our show entertained people all over the country with our take on The Blues Brothers where we would dress in outsized costumes. We also had numerous other comedy routines.

“It was during this time that several showbusiness agents wanted us to put pen to paper and sign exclusively with them for work all over the globe. I was a builder at the time and Patrick was an architect. We never took up any of the offers, and remained focused on our work in this country.”

He added: “I’ve been seen on many top-rated television shows that include Britain’s Got Talent and I’ve also been seen in several other programmes as a supporting artiste appearing with Bill Nighy in a series for Anglia TV, Martin Shaw in The Chief and Ian McShane in Lovejoy.”

Now solo, Martin says he has appeared in some prestigious venues across England, and is most proud of his supporting role of Bjorn Again the Abba tribute band at the Café Royale in London. He has also supported Irish comedian Jimmy Cricket and The Glitter Band.
