Maui Festival set for Suffolk return as it plans three-day event in the grounds of historic Elveden Hall, near Thetford, Brandon, Mildenhall and Bury St Edmunds

A long-running festival showcasing ‘all the colourful aspects of life’ is moving to a new home in Suffolk, near Thetford, this summer.

The Maui Festival will take over the grounds of Elveden Hall for the three day, four night showcase of international music and performance arts over the late summer bank holiday weekend, from August 22-24.

It is the festival’s first year at Elveden, having started out in Theberton, on the Suffolk coastline, in 2013 before moving to Dereham, in Norfolk, for the past four years.

Now, it is returning to Suffolk after finding a ‘great location’.

Silas Rayner, of festival organisers Maui Waui Events, said: “It’s halfway between Norwich and Cambridge as well as being close to Bury St Edmunds and Thetford.

“It is a great location, being surrounded by trees, and the parkland is beautiful. It has got all the services we could want.

“We went to see lots of potential venues and as soon as I stepped foot in Elveden I could visualise it. You could call it gut feeling, but I knew it was the right place.”

Silas said the Maui Festival has ‘something for everyone’.

“We are all the colourful aspects of life,” he said.

The event will feature six stages featuring live music and DJs; a dedicated circus tent with full circus shows; live comedy; cabaret and walkabout acts.

There will also be a children’s area with a full weekend programme of free, supervised activities.

“I think we’re the first festival to be held at Elveden Hall. With up to 5,000 tickets available we are a small festival, but a big deal for this part of Suffolk,” Silas added.

Maui Waui Events has applied to West Suffolk Council for a premises licence for parkland and woodland directly south of Elveden Hall.

The licence would cover the performance of plays, live and recorded music, dance performance and similar entertainment, alcohol sales, late refreshment and the showing of films.

A plan for the festival site includes areas for vistor and staff camping, quiet camping, campervans, a car park and festival arena.
