Two sisters, who set up The Beauty Hut in Thetford in memory of their mum, are soon to celebrate its second anniversary
Two sisters, who set up a beauty salon in memory of their mum, are soon to celebrate its second anniversary.
Martina Parent, and sister, Yvette, founded The Beauty Hut, in Fisher Way, Thetford, in July 2021.
It was just over a year after they lost their mum, Linda, to Covid, in the height of the pandemic.
“We were sitting at mum’s house one day, with dad, shortly after she died,” said Martina, 36.
“Dad knew Yvette and I had always wanted to set up a beauty salon together; and mum had left the family some money.
“Dad suddenly said why don’t you use that to start a salon, and give it a go. We didn’t know where at first until he suggested we also build a summer house on a driveway at the house.
“We’d lived there from age 16, until leaving home, and it was such a wonderful idea to remember her by.
“Dad also paid for all the courses to complete our training, and we launched in July, just over a year later.”
The Beauty Hut is now open six days a week; 10am-2.30pm Monday to Thursday, and 10am-6pm on Friday, 9.30am-6pm on Saturday.
It offers a range of beauty treatments including nails, eyebrow treatments, eyelash extensions, no needle dermal filler, ladies and men’s facial waxing, and microdermabrasion.
The salon is running 20 per cent discount for a range of treatments for Mother’s Day, between March 13 and 18. It also offers ‘prom packages’ for school leavers.
Yvette, 39, said: “I worked as a beauty therapist in nails, spray tanning, and massage a few years back but after having children, became too busy with them.
“After we lost mum, dad had a brainwave to start the salon and it just went from there.
“It was difficult at first because of the lockdown but since then, things have built up and its going great now. Hopefully mum would be very proud.”
