AFC Sudbury manager Jamie Godbold was adamant that his side’s 4-0 defeat to challengers Thurrock meant very little in the bigger picture of the title race and suggested some of his players might have got carried away with the hype around the game.

Four first half goals put AFC to the sword by the interval in front of more than 400 fans at The Wardale Williams Stadium on Saturday and brought an abrupt end to the Yellows’ 12-game unbeaten run, which had included 11 league wins.

Speaking to sports editor Russell Claydon post-match, Godbold said his side remain ‘in the driving seat’ in the title race and are ‘looking forward to facing Tilbury’ tomorrow night (Tuesday, February 2 at The Wardale Williams Stadium 7.45pm).

The AFC Sudbury manager also dismissed talk of Thurrock being their bogey team, with The Fleet having beaten them 5-1 in the reverse fixture in October, and said he could not be too harsh on his side, who will be looking to bounce back when they host the Dockers.
