Last chance for Rix
Chris Rix flies out to Iceland tomorrow in his bid to qualify for the World’s Strongest Disabled Man Championships, which take place in Norway in September.
The 32-year-old from Alpheton, who has cerebral palsy, narrowly missed out on qualifying at the UK Championships in May, and the competition in Hafnarfjördur, 10km from the capital of Reykjavik, on Saturday is his last chance to earn himself a shot at the world title.
“I’m looking forward to the day and training hard. I’m going to try my hardest to qualify for the Worlds,” said Rix, who will be competing in five disciplines.
These are deadlift, log lift, Hercules hold, truck pull and forward hold (Thor’s Hammer).
Rix, who works at Tesco in Sudbury, and trains at Zest in the town, is looking for sponsorship to support his efforts.
Sudbury company TGA sponsors his training, but he is hoping for more support for accommodation and travel costs.
To that end he is organising a fundraising truck pull at Nethergate Brewery in Long Melford on Saturday, August 18.
