MD leaves Ipswich Town fans hot under the collar at West Suffolk Q&A

Ipswich Town fans attending the club’s West Suffolk ITFC On The Road event at Bury Town were left fuming when MD Ian Milne suggested they had not read a letter properly.

The Ram Meadow clubhouse was packed out for the annual event, run by the Official ITFC Supporters’ Club, which sees the club send a panel including first-team players to answer questions and sign autographs.

With Ryan Fraser injured, Danish left-back Jonas Knudsen stepped in alongside striker Luke Varney, the latter who spoke about his successful battle to return from a serious injury this season.

Under-18s coach Alan Lee also took part in talking about a whole range of topics through two 45 minute sessions, the first conducted solely by ex-Ipswich and Bury player and now Ipswich’s academy fund-raising manager Simon Milton.

But it was in the second half, when MD Milne joined the panel as questions were opened to the floor, when the atmosphere quickly changed.

When a fan suggested the club had scored ‘an own goal’ over a letter sent out to season ticket holders warning because the family seating area at Portman Road is so popular it could be left in a position to ask adults without children to move, Milne’s responses soon angered fans who let out a gasp as he said some had mis-read the letter.

“We are not going to move anybody,” he said. “We have a lot of interest from people wanting to move.

“There is no decision -It is an option we have (to move fans). There is a little too much excitement about this.

“Some people have not read that letter properly.”

One fan shouted back: “Do not tell us we have not read that letter.”

* Meanwhile, Needham Market’s Keiran Morphew saw his trial with Ipswich Town postponed this week, following the versatile 22-year-old sustaining a groin injury in the Marketmen’s Ryman League Premier Division 0-0 draw at Lewes on Saturday.

Mark Morsley’s side followed up the stalemate by firing another blank in a 0-0 draw at home to Grays Athletic on Tuesday, to leave them just two places and five points above the drop zone ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Metropolitan Police (3pm).

* The BBC has reported that Needham Market FC do not see the ban they have imposed on the Bury Free Press being lifted ‘for the forseeable future’. It followed a story giving the club’s early season top goalscorer, Adam Mills, the chance to lift the lid on why he left the club.
