Woodpeckers Nursery children gain insight into importance of eye exams in visit to Sudbury opticians
Nursery children were given a rare insight into the role of an optometrist during a visit to an opticians in Sudbury.
Youngsters from Woodpeckers Nursery learnt about the importance of eye sight examinations during a tour at Wardale Williams in Gainsborough Street.
The children took turns to wear a pair or special glasses, which created an optical illusion when they looked at a series of pictures.
“There was an image of a butterfly on one and, when they wore the glasses, they could see two,” said deputy manager Emily Porter-Howe.
The nursery has been provided with a series of high-visibility jackets from the opticians, as part of an initiative to promote road safety.
Mrs Porter-Howe said the jackets had been particularly useful on trips out, including regular visits to Melford Court Care Home and working outside during litter pick sessions run by the Sudbury Community Wardens team.
She said: “Whenever we go off site, we always wear the hi-vis jackets, both staff and children. They’ve been really useful, especially with little funding.”
