Sounds of the Past radio museum in Monks Eleigh gives cash boost to Prostate Cancer UK charity
The owner of a museum, which is dedicated to showcasing an extensive range of vintage radios, has raised £700 for a cancer charity close to his heart.
Based at a former chapel in The Street in Monks Eleigh, Sounds of the Past was established in 2014 by radio enthusiast Paul Goodchild, who collects donations from visitors for Prostate Cancer UK.
“I have prostrate cancer myself and I like to raise money for the charity,” he said.
Having developed an interest in music and radios since a young boy, Mr Goodchild was keen to set up a museum, which gives visitors a glimpse of the past thanks to an array of restored radios, television sets and electrical equipment.
“I started it when I retired because I wanted to do something different,” said Mr Goodchild, of Playford Court, Sudbury.
Before the museum was established, the 75-year-old launched an appeal for help in securing a site to house his large collection, which resulted in the owner of the chapel offering the premises rent-free.
The museum opens on the first Sunday of every month, between 10.30am and 4pm, and is free to enter.
