Village set for crunch talks over parking at tonight's public meeting in Great Cornard

More than 2,000 flyers – inviting Great Cornard residents to a public meeting to find solutions to long-term parking issues in the area – have been circulated by two concerned villagers.

Julia Dalley and Nikki Googe are hoping for a large turnout for tonight’s meeting at The Stevenson Centre at 7.30pm.

Mrs Dalley said she expected representatives from Babergh District Council, the police and emergency services to attend.

“It’s a chance for the community to work together to come up with a solution to the problem,” she said.

“We’d also like the council to be more forward-thinking about car parking, as the lack of spaces is a continuing problem.

“The parking situation has got worse because of aggression between neighbours.

“We have real problems in places like Shelley Avenue, Kersey Avenue and Rede Way, but, to be honest, it’s a problem everywhere as more people have cars and there are not enough parking spaces available.”

Great Cornard Parish Council discussed the issue at its February meeting.

Councillors were told that enforcement action carried out by Babergh District Council had resulted in 25 cars being removed and disposed of in the past six months.

Bollards in Lindsey Avenue have been put up to prevent parking on the verge, and 120 first warning letters issued by the council, with 30 second warning letters threatening prosecution sent out.
