Long Melford rated most stylish location in Suffolk for 2024, according to new survey
Long Melford has been anointed as the most stylish location in Suffolk, in the latest edition of an annual survey.
The historic village ranked top of the county in a survey by online retailer Furniturebox to determine the most stylish locales around the UK.
The results were determined by the opinions of panels in each major city and county across the nation, including Suffolk, with 5,000 people polled in total.
Those surveyed were asked to rank locations according to the beauty of local buildings and scenery, how picturesque their best features were, and their popularity as a filming location.
In addition to ranking first in Suffolk, Long Melford also performed well at national level, placing 11th overall on the final list of the country’s 60 most stylish locations.
The village was highlighted in the survey results for its heritage sites – such as Kentwell Hall, Melford Hall and Holy Trinity Church – as well as a range of independent businesses on the high street.
It also garnered recognition as a filming location for Lovejoy, the popular television series, which was broadcast on the BBC between 1986 and 1994.
Jules Stenson, Furniturebox spokesman, said: “Long Melford is the most stylish place to live in Suffolk.
“All 60 places on the list would have been worthy winners and show why the UK is such a stylish country, loved by artists, film-makers and tourists from all over the world.
“What is interesting is how influential Instagram has become in boosting tourism in many of our top 60, particularly around East Anglia.
“It is a massive help for visitor numbers, too, if a popular film or TV show uses a town or village as a location.
“Most of the locations in the top 60 are not the most affluent or fashionable in their localities.”
Long Melford takes the top spot from Lavenham, which earned the county’s most stylish accolade in last year’s version of the survey.
