VIDEO: Did you see the shark swimming in Diss Mere?

If the thought of a near 100 pound catfish patrolling Diss Mere was concerning enough, then this latest sighting is likely to give you nightmares.

People this afternoon reported there was a shark swimming in the town’s famous lake. In scenes reminiscent of the film Jaws, people were seen pointing at the dorsal fin of the beast.

But it was actually the handywork of London designer and artist, Andrew Usiskin, who has family in Wortham.

He told the Diss Express it was just a “bit of fun”.

“Purely and simply, I always thought it would be a great idea to have a remote control shark fin! This is the first time I have taken it out,” he said.

“I have trialled it a few times, and it needed various adjustments because it took on water before, we had to get the balance and body shape right so it could sit on the water. But now I think I have just about got it right and it works really well.

“Essentially it is a model boat, effectively designed and weighted in such a way that it stays upright in the water.

“It is an electric motor with a rechargeable battery inside, and it is just a conventional boat really but instead of a boat it’s a shark fin.”
