Sudbury in Bloom rewards top gardeners for fruits of their labour during coronavirus pandemic

Keen gardeners were rewarded for their hard work and floral creations at the culmination of this year’s Sudbury in Bloom competition.

Certificates were sent out to winners this week, with a presentation event scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fred Godding (best front garden), Rebecca Preswick (best back garden), Lyn Richer (best container, basket or pot), Jill Fisher (best eco garden) and Colin Ridley (best home veggie plot) were all winners.

Andy Howes, vice-chairman of Sudbury in Bloom, said: “Residents were asked to upload photographs of their floral displays and containers on to our website over a period of four months. Winners were notified by phone and received their certificate and prizes by post.”

He said next year the committee was hoping to expand its Pride of Sudbury competition to include all parts of the town.

Plans are also in place to replace a number of planters around Belle Vue roundabout and organise some plant sales.
