THOMAS COOK COLLAPSE: Warning after fraudsters attempt to target travel firm's customers

Scammers quick to take advantage of the Thomas Cook collapse have already started trying to trick people out of their money.

Reports have emerged of people in Sudbury receiving calls from fraudsters asking for financial details, such as their bank card number and three-digit security code, after claiming they can issue a refund for cancelled holidays and flights.

The company ceased trading on Monday, after failing to get the £200 million it needed to keep its lenders happy.

Suffolk Trading Standards stated that multiple residents around the county have reportedly been targeted by the scam.

Anyone who receives such a call is asked to report it to Trading Standards by calling 03454 040506.

Action Fraud has also issued advice that warns people not to fall for the fraud and be wary of any unsolicited text messages or calls.
