Summer reading challenge coming to a library near you

Suffolk Libraries has revealed the theme of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge and is looking for volunteers to help make it another successful summer of reading.

The summer reading challenge is a major literacy campaign which encourages four to 11-year-olds to keep reading throughout the summer holidays.

Last year more than 800,000 children across the country took part.

Organised by the Reading Agency and run in libraries this year’s theme is ‘Record Breakers’.

During the challenge children will be encouraged to read six or more library books of their choice during the summer holidays with collectable incentives and rewards, plus a certificate, or medal for every child who completes the Challenge.

Children can sign up at their local library at the start of the summer holidays for free.

Alison Wheeler, general manager of Suffolk Libraries, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge has been a huge success in Suffolk and seems to become more popular every year.

“Reading can be a passion for everyone and it’s especially important for children to develop a love of reading from an early age.”
