Suffolk mobile speed camera locations revealed as national speed enforcement campaign is launched

As part of a national speed enforcement campaign running all this week police have revealed they will be carrying out speed checks on the A134 between Bury St Edmunds and Thetford and on the A14 between Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge.

Officers are taking place in the second and last TISPOL speed campaign of the year this week and will use marked and unmarked cars across the country as well as speed safety cameras.

I April, during the first TISPOL speed campaign, 39,231 vehicles were detected breaking the speed limit in the UK.

- Speeding is known as one of the ‘fatal four’ main causes of serious injuries and deaths on the roads.

- It is estimated that speeding contributes to as many as one third of all crashes resulting in death

- Speeding is the most contributory factor to road deaths and serious injuries (ETSC 2008).

- In 2013, across Europe, 3,064 people were killed or seriously injured in crashes where speed was a factor.

- The risk of death is approximately four times higher when a pedestrian is hit at 40mph compared to at 30mph.

With support from the majority of countries throughout Europe, the TISPOL speed campaign aims to enforce the speed limit for all vehicles and draw media attention to the importance of the subject.

During the forthcoming campaign in the UK, forces will prioritise and tackle the issue of speeding as a united front.
