A 95-year-old woman died after suffering multiple fractures following a fall at her home in Sudbury, an inquest has heard.

Zena Bennett had been discovered in the hallway of her home in Salters Hall Mews on the morning of Wednesday, May 30.

The inquest on Friday at Suffolk Coroners Court in Ipswich was told that Mrs Bennett was taken to the West Suffolk Hospital, where she died from her injuries the following day.

Nigel Parsley, the senior coroner for Suffolk, said Mrs Bennett is believed to have fallen sometime overnight, before being found the next morning at 7am.

The cause of her death was given as multiple fractures and old age.

Mrs Bennett, who was widowed and lived alone, had retired 37 years ago from working as an office receptionist for the family’s funeral business.

Mr Parsley said Mrs Bennett was found on the hallway floor with her walker which may have indicated that she was going to the bathroom.

She was wearing a personal alarm but it had not been activated.

The coroner recorded a conclusion that Mrs Bennett died from the effects of a fall contributed to by old age and frailty.
