Sudbury Town Council forms working group to allocate emergency funds for tackling coronavirus outbreak
Emergency funds will enable effective work to be carried out to tackle coronavirus in Sudbury.
During a meeting of Sudbury Town Council, which was hosted via video conference on Tuesday, a motion to form a group dedicated to assisting in the financing of any project to combat the disease was passed.
Councillors agreed that a Covid-19 fund sub-committee should be established to support Ciaran Griffin, the incoming town clerk, to provide him with additional financial help to respond to any problem related to the disease.
As part of the initiative, the group of three councillors will make up to £5,000 available for the scheme – an amount which has been agreed by members of the authority’s finance committee.
Long-time councillor Simon Barrett said: “It was felt that the figures were there to give Ciaran as much flexibility as possible with the smaller sums that might be needed.
“By having three people, if there’s something that has to be enacted quickly, we can get together and just do that.”
