Sudbury festival to mark town's rich heritage and culture
Visitors will be given a rare glimpse of a medieval painting as part of a heritage event in Sudbury today (Saturday).
The artwork, which was discovered during a restoration project following a major blaze at Goldsmith’s Mansion in Friars Street in September 2015, will be available to view by appointment at the Sudbury Tourist Information Centre.
The rare viewing coincides with Heritage Open Days, an annual festival that takes place across England to celebrate history and culture.
Events being staged include a guided tour of the Masonic Hall between 1pm and 3pm, when visitors will have the chance to explore an old temple.
A series of silk wall hangings will be on show at Sudbury Town Hall, between 10am and 4pm.
District councillor John Nunn, who has developed an interest in archaeology, will be on hand to shed light on unidentified artefacts.
He hopes to encounter a range of unusual pieces. He said: “Last year, someone brought me a metal object they had found about 50 years ago and it was a Roman brooch.”
