Sudbury day centre for people with dementia gets cash boost from centuries-old scheme

A Sudbury charity, which provides stimulating days out for people with dementia, has received a cash boost from a centuries-old initiative.

The Mumford’s Charity was set up hundreds of years ago to provide coal for agricultural workers in times of need.

With the number of beneficiaries having dwindled over the years, the charity’s trustees have decided to wind-up the initiative and donate the remaining funds to Age UK Suffolk’s Chilton Club.

Joined by members of All Saints’ Church in Little Cornard, the charity was presented with a cheque for £1,285.

Patricia Monk, treasurer of Little Cornard’s Parochial Church Council, praised the charity’s specialist day centre in Martin’s Road for people with dementia.

“It gets them out of their own home where they do all sorts of activities,” she said. “The money will be used to keep that service going.”
