Sudbury and Bures recognised for efforts to enhance communities at annual awards ceremony
Sudbury and Bures have received awards recognising the work done by their councils to make them great places to live.
Sudbury town clerk Jacqui Howells and mayor Robert Spivey stepped up to receive the Town of the Year award at the annual Suffolk Community Awards last week.
And Bures St Mary Parish Council clerk Jenny Wright, along with parish council chairman Gill Jackson, received their accolade as Small Village of the Year.
The initiative recognises organisations, groups and individuals who contribute to their community.
Mrs Howells said: “Our councillors are all volunteers who give up their time for the benefit of all residents, visitors and businesses.
“The award reflects the dedication of both officers and councillors who work tirelessly for the benefit of the town.
“There are many dedicated staff working in many areas, including the advice centre, tourist information, cemetery, market, events and our community wardens.”
The awards are run by Community Action Suffolk and the Suffolk Association of Local Councils (Salc).
Salc chief executive office Sally Longmate said: “Local town and parish councils are enablers and increasingly make a significant contribution to where we choose to live.
“It is important to have these awards so we can shine a light on the work they do.”
The event, which is held each year, recognised the outstanding contributions from 14 individuals and organisations.
