Sir Bradley Wiggins to take part in Tour of Britain: Road closures to Suffolk streets during event

Some of the world’s top cyclists will be whizzing through Suffolk’s streets in September, causing road closures and rolling road blocks.

The Tour of Britain, the country’s premier road cycling event and the UK’s largest free-to-spectate event, comes through the county on Saturday, September 12 in the race’s penultimate stage.

From 5pm on Friday, September 11 until 5pm Saturday, September 12 there will be parking suspensions in Hadleigh in Gallows Hill, Bridge Street and High Street as well as Bildeston High Street .

There are also expected to be short delays due to rolling road closures in Wattisham from 2.27pm, Semer at 2.44pm, Hadleigh from 2.49pm, Upper Layham from 2.55pm and Raydon from 2.58pm.

Tony Goldson, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member responsible for the Most Active County campaign, said: “I am extremely excited to be welcoming the Aviva Tour of Britain to the county. It’s not very often you get an international sporting event come speeding through your neighbourhood.

“We’re very fortunate in Suffolk to host both the Aviva Women’s Tour and the Aviva Tour of Britain.

“We are a county full of cycling enthusiasts and I’m confident our historic towns and scenic villages will provide the perfect backdrop to such a fantastic sporting event.

“We want everyone to be able to fully enjoy the race so it’s important that we make people aware of the temporary impact that this will have on our roads.”

Some of the top riders from across the world will be taking part in the race, including Britain’s sprint specialist Mark Cavendish.
