Sible Hedingham mansion where armed robbery occurred goes on market for £2m
The home of a businessman, who was shot in the leg during an armed robbery two years ago, has gone on the market in Sible Hedingham for £1.95 million.
The eight-bedroom property in Rectory Road was broken into by armed men with shotguns in 2016.
Timothy Mardon was in bed asleep when he was woken by intruders outside his home.
The gunmen shot through the victim’s bedroom door, hitting Mr Mardon in the leg.
He was subsequently subjected to a 30-minute ordeal, where he was repeatedly threatened with demands to hand over drugs.
During the incident, the victim managed to call 999, which allowed the ordeal to be recorded; which was used as significant evidence during the trial.
Charlie Simms, of North Road, Great Yeldham, was sentenced to 20 years in jail for attempted murder, aggravated burglary and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Christopher Bergin, of Hawkwood Road, Sible Hedingham, was sentenced to 14 years in jail for aggravated burglary, wounding with intent and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.
During the hearing, prosecutor Richard Christie QC, described the incident as a “living nightmare”.
The Grade II-listed property, advertised by Carter Jonas estate agents in Long Melford, has an asking price of £1.95 million.
The Georgian mansion, known as The Old Rectory, comes with a swimming pool, tennis court, garage and cottage.
