Shoppers and traders gearing up for inaugural Festive Long Melford event this weekend

People are being encouraged to support traders in Long Melford this weekend when the village hosts an inaugural Christmas-themed event.

Organised by the business association, Festive Long Melford will see traders welcome shoppers alongside a mix of festive entertainment.

Committee member Jess Brown, owner of Jessica Muir Gallery, said the showcase would enable people to see the village at its best.

“The event will encourage people to make the most of what’s going on in the village, while bringing some festive cheer,” she said.

Father Christmas will be greeting youngsters at his grotto in Aurora House, while his trusted reindeer will be positioned near the Bull Hotel.

Musical entertainment will feature Long Melford and Boxted Silver Bands and the Pop Chorus. Morris dancers will also perform.

Long Melford Primary School is hosting its own festive fair in the village hall, between 1pm and 4pm, while Punch and Judy shows will run adjacent to the Co-op.

Traditional carols will be sung on The Green at 4.30pm, when the Christmas lights will be switched on.
