Pride in Suffolk exhibition at Sudbury Library shares insights into LGBT community
Visitors were given a rare insight into the personal experiences of people’s sexual and gender identities as part of a touring exhibition at Sudbury Library this week.
Staged at the venue across three days, Pride in Suffolk’s Past explored the candid accounts of renowned figures and individuals from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
Praising the event, library manager Gareth Lewry said he was pleased that the project had sparked a lively discussion among visitors.
“Some of the comments were very interesting,” he said. “Because people hadn’t realised some of the laws that have come into effect, so it was quite an eye-opener.”
To coincide with LGBT History Month, Suffolk Archives is showcasing a rare collection of letters and documents of people’s personal stories at libraries across the county.
