Police renew appeal after dalmatian statue stolen from front of Sudbury Town Hall
Police have renewed their appeal and an investigation is ongoing after a dalmatian statue was stolen from the front of a town hall.
The sculpture, a black, metal Dalmatian, was broken from a post in Old Market Place outside Sudbury Town Hall on January 16, between 9.21pm and 9.30pm, before being placed in a bag and taken away.
A group of three males and two females, believed to be aged in their mid to late teens, were seen in the area at the time and are believed to have walked off with the sculpture.
PC John Moore said: “Despite there being appeals last week in the media we are still asking for support from members of the public as we look to identify all parties involved in this incident.
“We are also very keen to locate the sculpture which is an important celebration of Sudbury’s heritage.”
The 101 Dalmatian post is one of 14 that makes up the Talbot trail around Sudbury.
It was located outside the town hall where Pongo and Perdita stopped for water, while searching for their puppies, in the 101 Dalmatians book, written by Dodie Smith.
Officers would like to speak to anyone with any information or who may have witnessed the incident or seen the group around the time.
Two of the males were seen wearing dark clothing, with one wearing light-coloured trainers and the other wearing light and dark-coloured trainers.
One female was wearing dark clothing while the other was seen wearing light-coloured jeans and a white coat.
An investigation into the criminal damage and theft remains ongoing.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Suffolk Police, quoting crime reference 37/2964/25, via the website.
