Former Little Waldingfield Brookwood Manor Care Home could be converted into a hotel under new plans

Plans to convert a former care home into a boutique hotel have been lodged.

Brookwood Manor Care Home, in Little Waldingfield, closed down in 2021 after being placed into special measures by the Care Quality Commission.

Developers have put forward plans to Mid Suffolk Council to turn the care home at Holbrook Hall into a hotel and restaurant.

A planning application, submitted by Cowper Griffith Architects, said: "The new facilities will be of high quality and inclusive design that will function well and add to the overall quality of the area.

"The hall in its present state is unsustainable."

Due to the building having previously been used as a hall, it is believed that changes in order to convert it into a hotel will be straightforward.

The current car park will be expanded in order to provide a total of 65 spaces, as well as a further 14 overspill bays.

A new two-storey building will be erected on the west side of the hall, with the rooms taking advantage of the views over the local area.

The proposed restaurant will be built towards the south of the hotel.

The planning application adds: "The proposal will restore and enhance the distinct characteristics of the former Victorian manor house and its parkland landscape providing high quality sustainable hotel facilities, and improving the current setting, gardens, access and parking provision."

A total of 21 bedrooms will be provided in the hotel if plans are given the go-ahead.

Originally bought by the Appleton family in the 1400s, the care home was first opened in 1985 before closing two years ago.
