Plans for flats in Gaol Lane in the centre of Sudbury approved
Plans to build six flats in the centre of Sudbury have been given the go ahead.
Developers submitted proposals to build the one-bedroom apartments on land adjacent to Gaol Lane in February this year.
The land, behind WHsmith and Superdrug, is currently used for parking by the public. Access to both retail stores has been considered in the application.
Pedestrian access will be created via Gaol Lane, with six parking spaces for cars and six storage spaces for bicycles also included in the plans.
Applicants Paul Lunn Architectural Services said in a planning statement: "The appearance of the development was designed to blend in with the surrounding buildings, using good quality, traditional building materials throughout to create a building sympathetic with Sudbury’s historic core, built to last and weather well."
Both Babergh and Mid Suffolk Council and Sudbury Town Council granted approval for the plans, providing future proposals are submitted to install electric charging points in order to 'future proof' the development and promote sustainable.
The delegated officer for the development added: "This more modest proposal provides six one-bed flats in a sustainable and well-connected location in the mixed-use area of the town centre.
"The development will result in the enhancement of a vacant plot in the conservation area which has been sensitively designed to reflect local distinctiveness."
