PICTURES: Five artists and craft makers showcased at Mill Tye art gallery in Great Cornard
Great Cornard’s Mill Tye art gallery is featuring a selection of different arts and crafts this month.
It is the first time the gallery has put together an exhibition showcasing furniture, paintings, prints, mono-prints and ceramics all under one roof.
The exhibition is called Five Pairs of Hands because it features five artists and makers from across the area.
The artists are painter Michael Groghan, ceramics specialist Selena Bragg and her son Adam, who makes furniture, and print-maker Sara Muzira. It has been curated by artist Rosie Perkins.
A series of mono-prints on show by Sara Muzira are based on the Lebanon cedar trees growing near a car park in Bury St Edmunds.
The trees have been growing there since the 1700s, when they were collected as specimen trees by the Cullum family who owned Hardwick House, explained gallery owner Peter Rumsey, pictured above with Rosie Perkins.
He said: “These trees, once collected in the Mediterranean by avid gardeners, have survived the two world wars and stand monumental and undisturbed. Sara’s prints are created by layers of ink, each one linked to others through motif or colour.”
The exhibition runs until September 29.
