PICTURES: Acton school fun day boosts outdoor classroom fundraising drive

Acton Primary School staged a fun day last weekend in aid of an ambitious fundraising drive to install an outdoor classroom on its site.

The school needs to raise £10,000 to fund the interactive facility, which will help to provide children with more learning opportunities.

Various attractions were laid on at Acton Village Hall’s playing field on Saturday, included donkey rides and a train ride, with crafts on offer by Cavendish Girls Guides.

The fundraising drive, organised by the Friends of Acton Committee, is hoping the new outdoor facility will provide a range of activities which children might encounter during school outings.

“The school funding cuts are having an impact on school trips, and parents are being asked to fund these,” explained committee member Marie Patey.

Activities could involve children learning about healthy eating by growing their own fruit and vegetables.

Mrs Patey, whose six-year-old son attends the school, said plans to build the new facility had received a good response from staff and parents.

“It’s all been positive,” she said. “They think it’s a good idea.”

Last year, the school funded its own interactive climbing equipment.
