Sudbury Party in the Park ready to bring fun in the sun back to Belle Vue Park for first time since Covid-19 pandemic

Sudbury is set to bring back the fun in the sun, with the revival of its landmark summer event for the first-time post-Covid.

Belle Vue Park will welcome back Party in the Park tomorrow, bringing together a huge number of community groups, performers and activities for all ages.

Alongside dozens of stalls, rides and inflatables, a full arena programme of entertainment and demonstrations is lined up throughout the morning and afternoon, followed by an evening of live music.

It is the first time that Party in the Park – a long-running fixture of the Sudbury calendar – will be held in three years, having missed out in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

Teresa Elford, Sudbury Town Council’s events co-ordinator, said she hoped the long wait since the last event would give this year an extra significance.

“The last one we held was in 2019, and we’re hoping to get a lot of people there, so it comes back with a bang,” she told Suffolk News.

“I’m hoping it will be even bigger, better and more special than before, because we haven’t had it for the last couple of years.

“We have about 60 stalls in total, with a lot of different activities, and the music in the evening is a lot of local people, some of whom are performing for the first time.”

Party in the Park will begin at 11am on Sunday, with the official opening being carried out by town mayor Ellen Murphy at 11.45am.

Between noon and 4pm, the arena will play host to entertainment such as magician Paul Pleasants, demos by Chat Ying Kung Fu and Sudbury Rugby Club, dance showcases, a Frozen sing-along, and a rhythm performance by Drumz Kool.

From 5pm to 9pm, a line-up of live music will take to the stage, organised by Cloud 9 Roadshow, including Serena Grant, False Colours, Ben Smith, Grace Calver, Tom Brooks, Break For Set Up and Point Clear.

With high temperatures forecast for Sunday, the town council is advising visitors to take sensible precautions, including bringing plenty of fluids and sun cream.

Attendees are also welcome to set up parasols and pop-up gazebos to shade themselves from the sun.
