New Ducati gets police revved up for summer biker season

Police motorcyclists in Norfolk and Suffolk have taken delivery of a Ducati superbike to support casualty reduction work across the counties.

The Ducati Diavel in police livery will be used by officers at events throughout the summer biking season as an icebreaker, so they can engage with motorcyclists and give advice about road safety.

The Ducati superbike has been loaned to police by Seastar Superbikes based in Newton Flotman and has already received encouraging response after first being displayed at the Suffolk Show in June and then at the Royal Norfolk Show as well as biker events.

Inspector Darren Elliott, from the Norfolk and Suffolk Police Roads Policing Unit, said: “We work closely with our partners to improve road safety and increase awareness among motorcyclists about dangers and hazards and how to overcome these.

“The Ducati is a great way to break down barriers between the police and motorcycling community and by having this bike we may be able to reach people who otherwise would not have engaged with us.”

Riders can improve their skills by taking additional training, with courses offered locally through the Think! Road Safety Partnership and Suffolk Roadsafe.

Seastar managing director Vince Vrinten has been involved with the safe rider scheme for 17 years and continues to send staff members on the course. “The course is excellent value for money for anyone who wants to keep themselves safe; for us it keeps our customers safe and we get to see them again. Motorcycle safety is paramount in our business so it was a no brainer to donate the bike to police to enhance their work in casualty reduction.”
