More cash for Suffolk’s Better Broadband project

BT is reinvesting an extra £3.9 million into Better Broadband for Suffolk as take up passes 20 per cent of those able to get the superfast service.

The money is available as a result of a ‘gain share’ clause in the phase one contract BT agreed with Suffolk that allows the funding BT has received to be reinvested over a number of years into further coverage if take-up is better than the 20 per cent expected in its original business case.

This announcement brings forward the investment, making it available much earlier than planned.

The project has about 92,000 of the target 100,000 users connected.

But Leader of Suffolk County Council Colin Noble said: “It is important for all residents and businesses to understand that where high speed broadband service is available, they must contact their service provider to make the switch. It is not an automatic process.”

The county also suggests checking superfast prices with other providers.
